Phat Loot Phriday: Poisonfire Greatsword

“Wow,” Lolegolas said. “Another sword, huh?”
Throgg looked up from where he’d been busily grooming his monobrow with his tongue. “What you mean, little belfling?”
“You have a different sword again,” Lolegolas said. He tossed his flowing locks over his shoulder, revealing the glittering perfection of his chest. “You just had Kliklak’s and now … this.”
“Ah, yes,” Throgg grunted. “It is sword with Mastery on it, as stat. Since it no longer part of talents, I thought it must be very important to have on sword. The Poisonfire Greatsword has much Mastery! Make Throgg strong!”
“Hm, of course,” Lolegolas said. “I will say that this sword seems rather magnificent. It appeals to my more savage aesthetic. It’s all rough and course and manly.”
“Right,” Throgg said. “I got it for infiltrating a camp in the beta. Throgg is very clever, and was given the Poisonfire Greatsword as a reward.”
“Do you remember anything about the lore of the quest?” Lolegolas asked. The roleplayer in him was coming out, and the blood elf was getting very excited.
Throgg’s unibrow furrowed in confusion. “Lore? What? “
“You know,” the blonde replied. “The lore. The story.”
“Story is,” Throgg answered with finality, “I got this awesome sword.”

This twitter developer chat was focused on the recent beta talent tree overhaul announced for Cataclysm. Lots of information came out including drastic changes to the paladin class. A lot of the answers had to do with the fact that a couple classes aren’t very done in the current beta build that everyone has been poring over.
Some highlights:
- paladins will be using a new Holy Power resource system in addition to mana
- all death knights will gain Runic Empowerment via trainers for all specs
- no planned hard cap for the new Mastery stat
- still no guild housing
The full categorized round-up is after the break.

WRUP: Cake or pie edition

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW.com staff and ask them, “What are you playing this week?” (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we’re up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you’re playing, too!
This week in addition to the eternal question of what everyone is playing this weekend, we’ve asked the staff the almost-as-eternal question of cake or pie or death? It’s been a battle royale in The Queue this week with Anne declaring her love for pie and Adam followed up with a cake versus pie poll in which cake maintains a solid lead. So today, we ask our writers. Their thoughts on the best bakery confections along with what they’re playing for the weekend after the break.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Cataclysm beta first impressions

The first thing to report is, leveling a warrior from scratch in Cataclysm is probably the easiest it has ever been. Part of that is of course the new leveling experiences for the worgen and goblins, but I also started a blood elf warrior to see what that is like, and the streamlining inherent in the new talent and ability system made itself felt there as well. As of the most recent build, warriors start with Heroic Strike instead of Slam. It functions more or less exactly as you’d expect, and it basically serves the same role when leveling that it always did until you get Mortal Strike, Shield Slam or Bloodthirst.

Drama Mamas: When connecting online seems like a Real bad IDea

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.
When is your privacy not your privacy? When it’s connected to everyone else’s privacy. This week, the Drama Mamas help a reader whose desire to reserve sharing her email address and online status for her real-life friends is heating up her WoW friends list — and they’re boiling over at not being included.
Hi Drama Mamas, I’ve decided to only add people as Real ID friends who are RL friends that play on another server. I’m one of those people who sometimes like to hop on a character unknown to the folks I usually play with and spend some hours ingame on my own or with my boyfriend. However, I do have a lot of ingame friends I’m pretty close with and talk about a lot of things apart from the game. After installing the patch and logging on my main, it took only half an hour before I got the first whisper, containing an email adress and asking me to add them via Real ID. I told the person no, I’m only going to add very few RL friends to that list. I recieved a very sulky reply. Today the scenario repeated itself, meaning two days of playing very little have passed and two people are already angry at me for not adding them. Is there anything I can do to prevent other ingame friends to react the same? Why can’t some people accept that sometimes I do want to play, but don’t want to chat? Taz’Dingo, Anonyma

Vol’jin is obviously thinking about something very important. Maybe he’s just analyzing plans for the upcoming liberation of the Echo Isles. Or maybe he’s thinking about the sheer joy of punching Garrosh in the snoot. Or maybe he’s just pondering which is better, cake or pie. Deep thoughts there, Vol’jin — let’s take a look around and see what everyone else is thinking about:
- Bible of Dreams is thinking about civility, and how it applies to World of Warcraft.
- The Pink Pigtail Inn has a lot of good thoughts about jumping in game and why people do it.
- World of Warcraft Philosophized shares some thoughts on group quests and Kantian ethics.

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on Zangarmarsh (US-PvE-H).
The Syndicate-stomping on Wednesday was a blast, as usual. Expect more shenanigans along the same lines next week. But that’s not why you’re here. It’s Friday, so you’re here for polls. But first, here’s the schedule:
- Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the level 21 blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT
- Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock; Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, the level 15 blood elf warlock; Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the level 24 troll shaman; Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the level 17 troll mage; Michael Gray as Grayfields, the level 17 tauren hunter; and Gregg Reece as Sandwichdoc, the level 11 troll shaman, will be making appearances as they can.
We have polls for Croxy’s jumping and Sandwichdoc’s pet after the break.

Shifting Perspectives: Balance Ruby Sanctum guide
by WoW.com on Jul.16, 2010, under class-help, druid-guide, druid-info, druid-talents, featured, guide, guide-to-druids, halion, halion-loot, halion-the-twilight-destroyer, ruby-sanctum, ruby-sanctum-druid-gear, ruby-sanctum-druid-loot, ruby-sanctum-loot, talent, talents, world-of-warcraft-class-guide, world-of-warcraft-guide, wow-class-guide, wow-class-help, wow-druid, wow-druid-info, wow-druids, wow-guide, wow-talent-guide

Every Friday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting balance druids and those who group with them. This week we are sipping some iced tea, sittin’ on our porch swings, enjoying a nice sundae cone and talking about that time we slew the giant, rampaging, pink dragon.
I want to take a spot of a breather from Cataclysm information just for this week. Mostly because I’m slightly frothy at the mouth, which I’ve been told isn’t a good health sign, but more so due to the fact that so much is in the process of being changed right now that going into an in-depth discussion on a topic that’s likely to have every scrap completely altered tomorrow is silly. Perhaps silly is the wrong word, after all that’s never been something to stop me before, so let’s just consider this to be an isolated case — promises that next week will be a real Cataclysm discussion. In light of that, if there’s anything specific that you’d like to see covered, shoot me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you.
Focusing on the here and now, which is actually what this article is about, I’d like to quickly go over the more recent raiding addition Ruby Sanctum. Although I’ve seen mixed reviews of the instance from others, I at least think the instance is a nice little dash of refreshing. It doesn’t hold the same sense of urgency, the same notion that you’re going to be stuck in here for hours upon hours, days upon days (even though many guilds, particularly those working on hard mode, will be) that I get from going into ICC. RS is a nice little cooldown raid; it’s light, fun and refreshing like a cool glass of lemonade. To start us off, we’ll take a quick look at the shiny loots, since that’s what everyone really wants, and then we’ll look into a brief little guide on how to slay the giant purple/pink dragon at the end.
