This twitter developer chat was focused on the recent beta talent tree overhaul announced for Cataclysm. Lots of information came out including drastic changes to the paladin class. A lot of the answers had to do with the fact that a couple classes aren’t very done in the current beta build that everyone has been poring over.
Some highlights:
- paladins will be using a new Holy Power resource system in addition to mana
- all death knights will gain Runic Empowerment via trainers for all specs
- no planned hard cap for the new Mastery stat
- still no guild housing
The full categorized round-up is after the break.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Cataclysm beta first impressions

The first thing to report is, leveling a warrior from scratch in Cataclysm is probably the easiest it has ever been. Part of that is of course the new leveling experiences for the worgen and goblins, but I also started a blood elf warrior to see what that is like, and the streamlining inherent in the new talent and ability system made itself felt there as well. As of the most recent build, warriors start with Heroic Strike instead of Slam. It functions more or less exactly as you’d expect, and it basically serves the same role when leveling that it always did until you get Mortal Strike, Shield Slam or Bloodthirst.

Vol’jin is obviously thinking about something very important. Maybe he’s just analyzing plans for the upcoming liberation of the Echo Isles. Or maybe he’s thinking about the sheer joy of punching Garrosh in the snoot. Or maybe he’s just pondering which is better, cake or pie. Deep thoughts there, Vol’jin — let’s take a look around and see what everyone else is thinking about:
- Bible of Dreams is thinking about civility, and how it applies to World of Warcraft.
- The Pink Pigtail Inn has a lot of good thoughts about jumping in game and why people do it.
- World of Warcraft Philosophized shares some thoughts on group quests and Kantian ethics.

Shifting Perspectives: Balance Ruby Sanctum guide

Every Friday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting balance druids and those who group with them. This week we are sipping some iced tea, sittin’ on our porch swings, enjoying a nice sundae cone and talking about that time we slew the giant, rampaging, pink dragon.
I want to take a spot of a breather from Cataclysm information just for this week. Mostly because I’m slightly frothy at the mouth, which I’ve been told isn’t a good health sign, but more so due to the fact that so much is in the process of being changed right now that going into an in-depth discussion on a topic that’s likely to have every scrap completely altered tomorrow is silly. Perhaps silly is the wrong word, after all that’s never been something to stop me before, so let’s just consider this to be an isolated case — promises that next week will be a real Cataclysm discussion. In light of that, if there’s anything specific that you’d like to see covered, shoot me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you.
Focusing on the here and now, which is actually what this article is about, I’d like to quickly go over the more recent raiding addition Ruby Sanctum. Although I’ve seen mixed reviews of the instance from others, I at least think the instance is a nice little dash of refreshing. It doesn’t hold the same sense of urgency, the same notion that you’re going to be stuck in here for hours upon hours, days upon days (even though many guilds, particularly those working on hard mode, will be) that I get from going into ICC. RS is a nice little cooldown raid; it’s light, fun and refreshing like a cool glass of lemonade. To start us off, we’ll take a quick look at the shiny loots, since that’s what everyone really wants, and then we’ll look into a brief little guide on how to slay the giant purple/pink dragon at the end.

The latest Cataclysm screenshot from Blizzard is shown above. There’s definitely a new Egyptian feel to the titan zones in Cataclysm, which is a nice change from the Norse vibe of Wrath.

Ready Check: Everything I need to know about raiding, I learned in Karazhan
by WoW.com on Jul.16, 2010, under featured, guide, guide-to-raid-leading, leadership, raid-guide, raid-leader, raid-leader-guide, raiding-guide, raids, wow-guide, wow-guide-to-raid-leading, wow-raid-leader, wow-raiding, wow-raids

Well. All that kids nowadays seem to care about is Cataclysm. The bad news is that there’s still not much new information about raiding in Cataclysm. At this point, I’m not even holding my breath that we’ll have starter raids at the time Cataclysm ships. That could be a good thing. (After all, that means there’s more development time being spun into the raids to make them awesome.) For now, since I can’t effectively look forward to Cataclysm raiding yet, I’m forced once again to look backwards. And that makes me think (again) about Karazhan.
When I compare the hallowed halls of Medivh to the many instances in Wrath of the Lich King, I’m forced to realize I owe all my raiding success to Karazhan. Think I’m crazy? No, my gentle reader. I assure you that everything you need to know about raiding you learned in Karazhan. Allow me to share the many, vital skills we all learned from that first Burning Crusade instance.
SPOILER WARNING: There’s totally story spoilers for a four-year-old instance behind the cut.

Cataclysm Beta: Pets’ new Move To command
by WoW.com on Jul.16, 2010, under cataclysm-game, cataclysm-guide, cataclysm-news, expansion, expansion-three, move, move-to, move-to-button, next-xpac, pet-class-move-to, third-expansion, world-of-warcraft-cataclysm, wow-4.0, wow-4.0.2, wow-cataclysm, wow-expansion, wow-guide, wow-third-expansion

The intrepid Boubouille over at MMO-Champion has unearthed another beautiful gem in the Cataclysm beta. Namely? The Move To button. This command is fairly simple on the surface but will add a plethora of options to pet classes. (The pet classes, of course, are hunters, death knights, warlocks and mages.) When you press the button, you get a ground target reticle. Move the reticle where you wish your pet to stand, click your mouse and the pet goes there. And then it stands. That’s pretty simple, right?
In PvP, this new option will create a whole new level of positioning and feinting using one’s pet. If the enemy team is training your pet, you can tell it to run behind a pillar. In PvE, you’ll be able to guide your pet out of fire, set it to a more appropriate position or otherwise make it act like a beast that obeys your commands. It’s going to be pretty awesome; I’m likely to spend my first few hours learning a bunch of stupid pet tricks.
Right now, the actual icon for the Move To command is missing, but the button still works.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com’s Guide to Cataclysm, you can find out everything you need to know about WoW’s third expansion. From goblins and worgens to mastery and guild changes, it’s all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.Filed under: Cataclysm

If you think you recognize that female voice but can’t quite place it, let me help you. EmberIsolte dropped by to help voice the female portions of the song. I think it’s pretty awesome that Yumfries is getting so many different people involved with his series. It helps build a sense of community and involvement and lends Nub Tales a strong reputation.
As always, I love this series and can’t wait to see more.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.
Bro. Bro. You gotta check out the ‘Clysm, bro. You in the ‘Clysm beta? I heard Orgrimmar got a hella sweet new bar. Can you say “shots,” bro? Say it, bro. Bro. Brorgrimmar. Bromeo. Brosef Stalin. Broseidon, king of the brocean.
Alex asked:
“Regarding the Pirates rep grind (killing Booty Bay guards): I plan to be exalted with Pirates AND Booty Bay at the same time (by freeing Knot in Dire Maul countless of times). Will new Goblin quests in Cata will hurt my Pirates rep?”
The playable goblins are their own faction, not the Steamwheedle Cartel. Their quests shouldn’t affect your rep with either the Bloodsail Buccaneers or the Steamwheedle Cartel. But changes to Stranglethorn Vale and the rest of the world might. I’d get your kicks in now.

Well, just when we thought we knew what Blizzard was doing with priests, this week the devs have thrown us a curve ball in the form of a new talent build on the Cataclysm beta. I have but one, ultimate question:
How many talent previews must a priest walk down?
Do you know the answer? Perhaps Fox Van Allen and Dawn Moore of Spiritual Guidance infamy can assist you in the calculations. Remember: don’t panic.
